Marc Harbeson has utilized the Event/Condition/Action (ECA) system in Manage 2000 to do everything from simple notification tasks to much more complex data processing controls. The common misconception of the ECA system is that it is merely a good way to update users of critical system events—and it is—but it is also capable of so much more. In this session, Marc will move beyond simple notifications to demonstrate how ECAs can enforce business rules, trigger automated data processing, and serve as a lightweight workflow engine within Manage 2000. Attendees will come away with practical ECA patterns they can implement right away.
